Drinks

Our drinks are sourced locally where possible from small independent producers. Where possible, we buy direct from the manufacturer which not only means more money to them but also more choice to us. Despite making stock control a bit more of a fiddle we feel sure you’ll agree that the end result is worth the effort! All the usual favourites can be found here – beers, wines, spirits etc – but not necessarily the brand names you’d recognise. Contrary to what you might think, this means a great improvement on flavour as our products are hand picked for their quality and great taste.

Draught ales are sourced from the massive array of great quality small independent brewers in East Anglia. We rotate our beers so you won’t find the same beer each time you visit – giving you more opportunity to try lots of different  brews. In addition to the draught ales we also have a wide range of bottled beers – again all from East Anglia – including light ale, stout, mild, wheat beer & more.

We now have one draught lager line serving wonderful local lagers from Chevalier Brewery.

Our range of soft drinks includes delicious premium cordials through the seasons.  The Apple juice is also the base for our popular warm spiced apple juice. Cola is Fentiman’s Curiosity Cola and lemonade is Belvoir organic real lemonade. Despite these high quality soft drinks (we don’t use post-mix syrup drinks in our pub at all) we only charge normal pub prices for all our drinks.

Those preferring to drink less alcohol will be delighted with our range of ‘Nilcoholic‘ drinks. These recipes were concocted to broaden the range of drinks for drivers and those choosing not to consume alcohol for other reasons. They include a ‘Nojito’ (a bit like a Mohito but without the rum) and a ‘lime & ginger kick’, amongst other things. We also have a very tasty range of alcohol-free ales and lagers to choose from.

For our bottled beers, choose from:

    • Brandeston Gold (4.5% golden ale) - Earl Soham Brewery - 500ml
      Burnished gold coloured beer, full-bodied with a warming fruity aroma and a deep resinous malt flavour. Uses barley grown for the brewery at Brandeston
    • Trawlerboys (4.6% amber ale) - Green Jack Brewery - 500ml
      A full bodied copper coloured premium best bitter brewed with 100% English hops and malt, making this beer rich and malty with fruity hop flavours
    • Old Strong (4.7% brown ale) - Cliff Quay Brewery - 500ml
      A winter warmer, based on the recipe found in the Tolly Cobbold brewing book. In 1983 the Good beer guide described it thus. "A dark winter ale with good malt and roast aroma. These characteristics are also evident in the initial flavour, along with caramel. The finish is bitter sweet, with a lasting dryness."
    • Victoria Bitter (3.6% golden ale) - Earl Soham Brewery - 500ml 
      Light, hoppy and bitter. Brewed using a standard Pale malt and Crystal malt mix with Goldings and Fuggles hops.
    • Sir Roger's Porter (4% black porter) - Earl Soham Brewery - 500ml
      Full flavoured dark brown malty beer with bitter overtones and a fruity aftertaste
    • Orange Wheat (4.2% wheat beer) - Green Jack Brewery - 500ml
      Citrus notes dominate this golden coloured beer, with equal hints of hop and mandarin. A dry bitterness develops as the fruit slowly fades
    • Four Acre Arcadia (5% pale ale) - Starwing Brewery - 500ml
      This IPA, named after the farmland we’ve set aside to grow our own hops, is a wonderfully hoppy, crisp ale, not lacking in aroma, taste or drinkability
    • Stain Glass Blue (5.4% black porter) - Starwing Brewery - 500ml
      A robust porter. This dark and distinct porter is as complex as it is delicious. With a notable bitterness,  it can take a few sips to discern the well-rounded profile of this full bodied, malty beer
    • “21” Anniversary Barleywine (9% strong dark ale) - Humpty Dumpty Brewery - 330ml
      A rich, smooth ruby red barleywine hopped with US and UK hop varieties
    • Dewhopper Lager (4% LAGER) - Moongazer Ales - 500ml
      Light gold in colour with a crisp hoppy finish the lager is brewed for a number of weeks to allow flavours to develop. Brewed using Maris Otter barley and traditional European lager hops; Saaz, Celia, Hersbrucker
    • Helles 3.8 (3.8% LAGER) - Calvors Brewery - 330ml
      light, crisp and refreshing – a real thirst-quencher of a beer. Its exceptional flavour belies its lower ABV
    • Pilsner Premium (5% LAGER) - Calvors Brewery - 330ml
      quality pilsner style lager has a clean, smooth maltiness balanced with gentle hop flavours, creating a satisfying and full-bodied beer
    • Vienna Amber (4% LAGER) - Calvors Brewery - 330ml
      A beautiful deep amber colour, this classic Vienna lager has a lovely nutty taste with subtle hop flavour and lingering sweetness
    • Dry Hopped (4.3% LAGER) - Calvors Brewery - 330ml
      Light in colour and delicate in flavour, this carefully lager is dry-hopped in its final stages to give tropical aromas and floral notes
    • Medium Sparkling Cider (6.4% CIDER) - Whin Hill Cider - 330mlthis easy drinking sparkling cider is made in Norfolk and is very similar in taste to the crisp flavour of Aspall cider

Alcohol-free:

    • Ghost Ship 0.5% (0.5% pale ale) - Adnams Brewery - 500ml
      the taste and aroma of Ghost Ship, but with almost all the alcohol removed, so you can experience that famous citrus kick and smell lovely lemon and lime, when occasion or preference dictates less alcohol.
    • Nethergate - Venture Point Five - 0.5% - 500ml - Venture Point Five is a golden proof that a low alcohol beer can still carry a world of character. With water drawn from the brewery's on-site Stour Valley well and packed with the same zesty American hops as it's full-strength namesake, it delivers a crips hit and a clean, refreshing finish. A proper Suffolk pint!!
    • Guinness 0.0% - 440ml cans - Guinness 0.0% is brewed using the same natural ingredients as regular Guinness, water, barley hops and yeast, but the alcohol is gently removed through a cold filtration process. This method preserves the beer's sweet malt, bitter hops and roasted barley flavours along with it's dark ruby-red colour and creamy head

During the colder months we also stock a range of warming winter drinks including our special mulled wine. We took our time to perfect our own recipe using fairtrade wine, brandy, port, orange juice and whole spices. Our warm spiced cider is also a big hit - again whole spices are used and a drop of rum adds an extra kick!
